About Liposuction
Liposuction, also called suction lipectomy, is a procedure that removes fat cells from the body to help smooth contours. Many people find that no matter how healthy they may be, they are unable to lose fat in particular areas, like the thighs, hips, belly, flanks, upper arms and neck.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure of body sculpting and is not intended for weight loss. Proper diet and exercise after liposuction is critical to maintain the improved contour achieved by liposuction.
Liposuction Techniques
Many different techniques are available for liposuction, all of which leave only relatively small, short scars. During your consultation with Dr. Lim and Dr. Weintraub, you will discuss these techniques, including tumescent liposuction and liposculpture.
The cost of liposuction varies greatly, as each individual has very unique needs and goals. At your consultation you will receive a personalized quote for the cost of liposuction surgery, which will remain valid for a limited time period.
Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck surgery", is a dramatic procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the belly and tightens the abdominal muscles and fascia.
The abdominal area can be affected by hormonal and weight fluctuations, causing the abdominal skin to become loose. Some patients also develop stretch marks (also called striae). The abdominal muscles can stretch and lose their tone, resulting in a diastasis recti, which causes a prominence of the lower belly. These changes in the abdominal skin and muscles often have a limited response to diet and exercise.
Procedure
Tummy tuck surgery removes excess skin and fat as well as stretch marks of the lower abdomen. A muscle-tightening component can be added to smooth the waistline. Liposuction can further sculpt the abdomen and flanks. Certain patients may be good candidates for a "mini" tummy tuck, an extended abdominoplasty, or a panniculectomy.
A traditional abdominoplasty takes about two hours, and the incision is designed to lie low on the abdomen, where the scar can be easily concealed.
Duet uses internal "progressive tension" sutures to assist with healing and help achieve a more aesthetic scar. They typically place small drain tubes during the operation, which are removed in the office less than a week later. You will wear an abdominal binder or garment after surgery to help with support and reduce swelling.
Recovery
Our abdominoplasty patients go home the day of surgery, especially if they live in the Bay Area. However, our patients who live further away are encouraged to stay locally overnight, and anyone who undergoes more extensive surgery may feel more comfortable with an overnight stay in a local hotel or rental with an experienced caregiver.
Most patients are able to return to work 2-4 weeks after surgery. Every patient is expected to walk after surgery, but strenuous activity is not allowed initially. Returning to exercise is possible a few weeks later.
Although the scar will always be present, it should fade over time. When their incisions are ready, we advise our patients to use topical scar treatments with scientifically backed effectiveness, including silicone-based gels, creams, tape, and sheeting, during their recovery to improve the appearance of their scar.
Cost
The cost of an abdominoplasty varies from person to person, based on the complexity of the procedure, the amount of time required, and whether other procedures (such as liposuction) are performed in conjunction.

Brazilian Butt Lift & Fat Grafting
The Brazilian Butt Lift offers a way to increase the size and refine the shape of the buttocks area by transferring a patient's own fat.
\While some patients have always had buttocks that seemed relatively small for their frame or have lost volume in that area due to weight loss and/or aging, others are simply looking to enhance the size and shape of their buttocks. The Brazilian Butt Lift (also called BBL) offers a way to increase the size and refine the shape of the buttocks area by transferring a patient's own fat. This allows smoothing and narrowing in areas where there is excess fat, and grafting that "donated" fat to a more desirable area. At Duet we specialize in what some call the “Bay Area Butt Lift”, which uses a more modest volume that is transferred to the buttocks to enhance feminine curves to achieve satisfaction with the utmost discretion and safety.
Fat can also be transferred to other areas. A very popular option is to fill in the “hip dips” - slight concavities alongside the hips - to achieve a smoother look in swimsuits, dresses and leggings.
